Hey Olympia!
I'm Britney Johnson (and this is my family).
I'm running for Olympia School Board because I care deeply about our kids, our schools, and this amazing community. As a school board candidate, I’m committed to helping raise students who are prepared for the world ahead — people who know how to think critically, work together, and solve the challenges they’ll face with compassion, fairness, and a commitment to equality. Our schools should empower young people to become thoughtful, collaborative, and resilient leaders for the future.
By day, I’m an interior designer running my own business, B Design. Supporting and empowering women through the construction process is my focus and efficiency is my jam - whether it’s designing a room or figuring out how to make our schools work better for everyone - it's about clear goals, fully utilizing what you have and being creative about how you get there.
My husband and I have two kids in elementary school here in Olympia. We moved from Iowa, specifically to Olympia, for no other reason than because this is the type of community we want to raise our family in. We love it here. Like many parents, we got pulled into school board stuff over the last few years. It was scary to think this dream life we were building could be taken away so quickly, and was exactly the motivation I needed to get involved. I believe in the core values of the Olympia School District and want to do my part to uphold them.
As a school board candidate, my vision for my terms looks like this:
- Transparency and clear communication.
I believe every family, teacher, and student deserves clear, honest communication from their school board—no exceptions. I will ask the tough questions and demand answers, and I promise to do the same for you. If you come to me with a question, I’ll give you the best answer I can—and if I don’t know, I’ll be honest and work to find out. You deserve transparency, accountability, and a voice you can trust.
- Building Consensus within the Board and the Olympia community.
As your school board candidate, I believe in finding solutions that work for everyone—students, parents, teachers, and our community. I’m committed to bringing people together, listening to different perspectives, and solving problems creatively so we can make decisions that benefit all of us. We have too many important challenges to waste time stuck in disagreement. Let’s move forward together, with confidence and purpose, for the future of our schools.
- Mental Health
As a school board candidate, I believe mental health is just as important as academic success. Our students and staff face growing pressures and we must ensure they have the support, resources, and safe spaces they need to thrive. I’m committed to advocating for programs and policies that prioritize emotional well-being, reduce stigma, and foster a culture of care and understanding in our schools. Healthy minds build stronger futures—and that starts with us.
